And that's a wrap - 2019 Agency Insight Tour done and dusted! A huge thank you to the wonderful people at Wunderman Thompson, Cummins&Partners, Leo Burnett, M&C Saatchi and BWM Dentsu. Tired the students are but what amazing creative advertising solutions they absorbed, and what great agency culture exists here in Melbourne. Adland Melbourne going strong!
And we are off with Advertising Capstone Challenge Australia 2019. Client brief delivered by Anna Bollinger, Planning Partner (above), and other Senior Executives with Western Sydney University students tightly packed in the boardroom at DDB Sydney, and conference linked to Swinburne University of Technology (below), and the University of Queensland. What an amazing brief, what a great challenge for the students.
Fantastic to catch up with Lauren Maher from News Corp Australia to discuss potential opportunities for our students. An amazing global business - lets see what opportunities develop.
Some International New Year commitments upcoming:
I've joined the Advisory Board for The One Club's annual student creative awards show in the United States, known as The Young Ones 2019 Student Awards. New York based The One Club also manages one of the world’s pre-eminent advertising awards shows known as The One Show.
I'll also be on the first round judging panel of the Ad Venture Student Competition 2019, a pan European Advertising competition executively delivered by The European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA) and managed by its European Institute for Commercial Communications Education (EDCOM).
The Advertising Capstone programs of Swinburne University of Technology, UQ Business School and Western Sydney University have launched Advertising Capstone Challenge Australia.
With branding and logo design by Swinburne student Daniel Vesel, the rebranded Advertising Capstone Challenge builds on the successful program initiated in 2016 by Swinburne Advertising Lecturer David Reid, and UQ Business School’s Dr Nicole Hartley:
The initiative has been supported by M&C Saatchi/ Cricket Australia in 2016, Leo Burnett/ 7-Eleven in 2017, and AJF Partnership/ Lion Dairy & Beverages this year. Advertising Capstone Challenge Australia will run from August to October 2019.

A challenging brief from Lion Dairy and Drinks facilitated by AJF Partnership has seen over 130 capstone students compete for the opportunity to pitch their advertising campaign solutions in a real authentic setting. Four teams made the finals of the interstate inter-university 2018 Advertising Capstone challenge: Ignite Media, and Off Leash (UQ Business School), along with Scope and Chalk&Cheese (Swinburne). Applied research from all finalists resulted in some unique insights, a real depth of understanding of the target consumers journey, intriguing strategy, inspirational big ideas, along with some absolutely brilliant creative conceptualisations, and innovative media solutions.
In the end Scope from Swinburne University of Technology (pictured above) were the winners, so congratulations to Courtney Bree, Myles Deering (not in photo), Brenton Gardiner, Michael Jakubicki, Laura Peebles and Nada Sau - you've done us proud.
Second placed Ignite Media from UQBS made a wonderful pitch. Great work Lindelle Barrick, Katie Button, Danielle Emmerich, Nothando Mafico and Nick McCarthy.
Not forgetting the inventive and clever pitches from Off Leash (UQBS) Britaney Carmody, Clare Farrugia, Abbie Fowler, Nicholas Parnell, Andrew Walker, Jonathan Woods and Chalk&Cheese (Swinburne) Leah Hondrokostas, Daniel Jansen, Mark Lockwood, Adrian Posteraro and Ramona Warden.
My sincere appreciation to AJF Partnership, and Lion Dairy and Drinks for your support of the Advertising Capstone challenge this year. Industry engagement is a critical part of our advertising programs DNA! Thanks Anne Dowsley, Sharon Winton, Adam J. Francis, Sarah Tukua, Jill Cummins, Glenn Dalton, Joshua Stephens, and Xavier Hogan.
Huge thanks also go to UQ Business School and in particular Dr Nicole Hartley and Dr Jennifer Doig for continuing to support the delivery of a unique authentic real world challenge for our advertising students - helping foster the industry executives of tomorrow.
