Advertising Management and Campaigns Project students were introduced to the Honours research currently being undertaken by Aliya Jackson. Aliya's research in the discipline of Sociology analyses the Federal Governments Advertising campaign entitled ‘Girls Make Your Move’. Four common themes were identified based on previous research, including ‘Ability/competition’, ‘Self-consciousness’, ‘Role Models’, and ‘Stereotypes': "Provisional findings suggest that the images used in the campaign challenge some barriers, while reinforcing others. Stereotypes about the body image of girls who play sport are challenged with a diverse range of body shapes and physical appearances. In contrast, despite the emphasis in past literature on the influence of role models such as parents and coaches, the campaign fails to address this element in any detail." (Jackson 2016)
